On Thursdays during August, children can also enjoy a free craft activity as part of North East Museums’ ongoing partnership with Tyne and Wear Metro. These free family activities are included in the Ways to Play family programme, which runs across the region.

The museum has also recently opened its new Woodland Walk area, which is free to enter. The area includes winding paths, natural play opportunities, and plenty of space to explore.

The museum, also free to enter, is home to a fascinating collection of engines and artefacts. Visitors can also meet the dedicated volunteers of the North Tyneside Steam Railway Association, who keep the railway running.
