Preston Docks have had a railway infrastructure since 1850, and when the final tar trains ran in 1995, it looked like that tenancy had come to an end.  However, Steamport Southport began negotiations with Preston Borough Council, and during 1999, the group formerly based at the old engine shed in Southport moved to their new home on the dockside at Preston.

The Talyllyn Railway is an historic narrow-gauge steam railway, set in the beautiful Mid-Wales countryside. Running from Tywyn to Abergynolwyn and Nant Gwernol, the line passes the delightful Dolgoch Falls and there are excellent forest walks at Nant Gwernol. Why not come and visit us for a great family day out?

The North Eastern Railway Association exists to inform, to educate, and sometimes merely to entertain, those enthusiasts interested in the North Eastern and the Hull & Barnsley Railway Companies.  Interest is not confined to those companies however; the predecessors of and the successors to the North Eastern are not neglected.  Information is imparted via the North Eastern Express, a quarterly journal now published in A4 format to better accommodate numerous photographs and drawings.  The Association also publishes books and re-prints of original documents.  Personal contact between members is maintained via regular meetings.  Many members of the Association are modellers.  To cater for their interests, the Express provides information on prototypes and newly-issues models; the Association commissions the manufacture of accurately-coloured paint and, periodically, organises a Modeller's Forum.
